Lección 6: ¡Vamos de compras!

The following information is for class on Tuesday, December 4th:

Please bring your workbooks with the following pages completed:

Pg. 199 (Ej. 19-2) #1-10
Pg. 200 (Ej. 19-3) all

Please copy the vocabulary into your notebook Unit 7 Vocabulary

We will be learning about buying items, clothing and shopping vocabulary. We will learn how to compare things in Spanish and how to differentiate between items.

For Thursday's session, write out your Christmas shopping list in Spanish (example below).

Lista de Regalos para la Navidad:
Emmeline: una mesa y cuatro sillas, una muñeca de Mickey Mouse, carros
Scott: una camisa, canciones para el equipo de MP3, un libro
Mamá: un chaleco de Carhart, unos cuchillos para la cocina

Tarea: due el martes, el 11 de diciembre
Write a paragraph comparing yourself with a good friend. Use "más...que", "menos...que", "tan...como" and "tantos...como" at least one time each. (example below)

Comparison Paragraph:
"Mi amiga Meghan es más rubia que yo.  Meghan es menos alta que yo.  Ella es tan inteligente que yo.  Ella tiene tantos perros como yo.  Meghan es más simpática que yo."

In class on November 13th, we will talk about giving orders or commands in Spanish.  We will use these when giving directions for cooking and making meals.

3. Give instructions on how to make a certain food, using commands. Here is an example:


Ten el pan, el cuchillo, la mayonesa, la lechuga, el tomate, el jamón y el queso. Pon el pan en el plato. Con el cuchillo, cubre el pan con la mayonesa. Lava el tomate y la lechuga. Corta el tomate y pon dos piezas de tomate en el pan. Pon una hoja de lechuga encima (on top of) la lechuga. Ahora, pon el jamón y el queso. Finalmente, pon el pan encima. ¡Tienes un sándwich de jamón y queso!

Lección Tres: ¿Qué te gusta?

The following information is for class on Tuesday, September 25th, 2012.

We will use the same vocabulary that you copied for the last class, but we will focus on the following sections: "to talk about activities", "to talk about sports", "to talk about classes", "to talk about animals", "to say what you like to do", "to say what you don't like to do", "to talk about what someone likes or doesn't like".

Lección Dos: ¿Quién soy yo?

The following information will be used in class on September 18th and 25th.

Please copy the following vocabulary into your notebook.  It is a little longer than our lists will usually be, but I think the vocabulary is useful.


Clase: In class, we will talk about gender and number, as applied to adjectives and nouns.
We will also learn how to conjugate the verb SER and find out what "conjugation" means.

HINTS for HOMEWORK and TEST:

When conjugating SER, look for the subject of the sentence before the blank. If it is not the following straight-forward pronouns- yo, tu, el, ella, usted, nosotros, vosotros, ellos, ellas, ustedes- then you can go by these hints: 

A name or a singular noun - it will be "es" because it refers back to it or he/she
Two or more people or a plural noun - it will be "son" because it refers back to they/them

On the test, you will see phrases that you will have to replace with a pronoun (yo, tu, el, ella, usted, nosotros, vosotros, ellos, ellas, ustedes).  This is asking "what is a simpler way to refer to these people or things?" Here are some examples-
mi perro (my dog) = él  (one male, so it is "he")
Noah y Franklin = ellos (two males, so it is "they")
las clases (the classes) = ellas (two feminine nouns, so it is "they")
tú y yo= nosotros (you and i or "we")

Tarea:
After class on September 18th, please complete the following activities:

1. Worksheet Packet.
2. In "Practice Makes Perfect: Spanish Verb Tenses", do activity 2-1 on pg. 23-24 and 2-2 on pg. 24.
3. Without using your notes, complete Test for Pronouns, Ser, Adjectives, Gender  and email me your answers OR print it out and bring your test to class.
4. Write a paragraph in Spanish about yourself and 2 other people in your family, describing them. The paragraph should be at least 5 sentences long.  Here is an example:

Take a look at the Spanish Alphabet. We will go over this in class, but the most important letters to learn are the vowels: A, E, I, O, U.
