Classes for 2012-2013 will be on a Tuesday and Thursday schedule.
Welcome to my Beginner Spanish Course for home-schoolers! This course is designed to teach basic vocabulary and grammar skills to survive in a variety of situations. The course consists of 2 classes per week: a 3-hour class of instruction and a 1-hour real-world situation day where students can practice and apply what they have learned in a virtually non-English speaking environment. The 3-hour class will include a variety of activities, such as TPR (Total Physical Response) story telling, translation, grammar exercises, written response, short videos, popular music, group discussion and games.
Prior to each class, students will be required to visit this blog and copy new vocabulary / grammar into their "Diccionario", a spiral notebook that they will bring to class each week. On the same post will be a list of homework activities (mandatory) and additional cultural or practice activities (optional) to complete throughout the week, due on the Thursday practice class. Because we are working quickly through material and will only meet 4 hours a week, the more each student practices outside of class, the more successful he or she will be. We will also have a quiz each class to review material from the previous week.
Spanish 1: approx. 15 weeks: 7 units
Spanish 2: approx. 15 weeks: 8 units
The grading for the course is:
50% Attendance and Participation (completion of homework activities)
30% Projects and Tests and Quizzes
20% Final Exam
In additon, we have partnered with Bishop TK Gorman Regional Catholic School to take the National Spanish Exam. Schools throughout the United States use this assessment for their students each year. Family Discount: $150 for first child enrolled, $25 discount for each additional child.
